The HANARO SANS instrument was installed at the cold neutron (CN) beam port in the reactor hall and has been in service since July 2001. It consists of a gamma-ray and fast-neutron filter in a liquid-nitrogen cooled aluminum cryostat containing 20 cm of single-crystal Bi, 20 cm of polycrystalline Be, and a neutron velocity selector covering a wavelength range of 4.0–8.5Å and 10% resolution of dl/l. As a SANS detector, a two-dimensional 3He-detector with 128 ¡¿ 128 elements of 5 ¡¿5 mm2 is installed in a vacuum chamber with a variable sample-to-detector distance between 1.5 and 4.5 m. Additionally, the detector chamber can be tilted by 7.5¡Æ and the detector can be moved horizontally by 29.4 cm, thus allowing an effective q range of 0.06¡6 nm−1.
